Comments: Here's the show from the MGM Grand. Yes opened for Styx on this night, but both bands played a shorter set. "Heart Of The Sunrise" was dropped, but it's not big loss, since Benoit has been really struggling with it tour. Word is he is fighting a cold. He struggles at times on this one, especially on the high notes. The rest of the band seemed much tighter than earlier in the tour. I would have liked to see a more imaginitive set list. I feel the band should be promoting the new album. Sound quality is very good, but not quite as nice as the recording from New Bedford I posted earlier this year. Artwork is included using photos taken from the show. Enjoy.

There's been a lot of negative reviews of previous shows on this tour and I'd rather not rehash it here. Suffice it to say that the band could use some more time on the road to work on their cues. An enjoyable show overall considering the abbreviated format. Looking forward to a full show this fall after the release of Fly From Here. As for Geoff, I'd like to hear him turned up some more, I could hardly hear him. The recording is excellent from a good location with minimal crowd interference.

Enjoy!

This show was recorded with my Iphone 4 using Recorded Pro. Recorded at 44.1 K in Wav format. It was converted to Flac via Audacity 1.3 Beta. There are 2 spots in the recordiing that have breaks, on Tempus Fugit and And you and I. I switched apps to take some pictures and the damn thing stopped recording. It was only for a few seconds.

This was a great show, I was in Orch 3 B-1 20 feet from the stage on the Steve Howe side. There were some hollerers, especially the guy behind me who had his kid with him who didn’t seem to be enjoying the show. I was surprised by the crowd,a lot of people, but I think at least half saw Styx who I am not fond of. The show was great, Everyone sounded awesome, but Benoit hit a few clunkers on Heart of the Sunrise. Not as bad as July 4 though.

Hot off the presses! I recorded this from 10th row center so the recording is excellent. Here are a few points of interest. Benoit David's vocals are still on the shaky side. Its a paradox really because he can hit a lot of those high notes, but on others he just sounds like his voice is going to fall apart. Geoff's keys were up and down. Some were loud enough, some were not. Chris's bass was just right for me. Steve's guitar was very good in the mix as well, even the acoustic stuff. Alan's drums? Where were they?? They were weak a lot of the time volume-wise, but not for lack of playing. Compared to Styx's drums it sounded like Alan was playing on an oatmeal canister. Setlist is the same as all the other shows they closed except that they played the long version of Roundabout which was nice. Geoff's reverse piano intro to Roundabout was not working so he signaled to Steve to carry on without him. The set musically was not as tight as it could have been, but at this venue the show was to start at 8pm instead of 7pm like most of the other venues. Styx didn't come on until 8:20 which meant Yes didn't start until around 10pm. They acted a little tired.

I've included my ticket and 5 shots of the band members my buddy shot in this torrent.

Rather short show from Yes as well as the Styx show being short. This show does not have Heart of the Sunrise or And You And I like other of the Yes sets I have seen. The show was still really good. I think Steve Howe was probably the most impressive of the bunch. Some of the shows I have heard on dime he was somewhat buried in the mix but he was right up front here most of the time. It had been since the 90125 tour since I had seen Yes. There was nothing flashy about the show.
Just some good enjoyable music on a Friday night.

Enjoy

Notes: My wife and I were supposed to bring our 15 year old son, and we were supposed
to meet another couple, but, the kid ended up going to cross country camp and the friends
ended up needing to spend the money elsewhere, so, it ended up being just the two of us.
This was the 13th time I've seen Yes (my wife has seen them 6 times, my son twice), the
2nd time with Benoit. As we both remark on tape, Benoit sounded pretty good. Listening
back, he sounds better at the time than on the tape - Jon pretty much always nailed these
parts, but, in my experience, that's more the exception than the rule when it comes to
classic rock-era singers live on stage. But, both times I've seen Benoit, I've found him to
be serviceable - my interest in Yes stemmed from Steve Howe's guitar playing and grew
from that. Of course, I miss Jon and want him there, but, some Yes is better than no Yes
to me. Your mileage may vary.

The video didn't turn out terrific - we're sort of chatty, and I was surprised to find
myself standing for large parts, so it's pretty shaky, but, the audio is decent, and I
understand that the two usual Yes audio tapers in this area did not attend, so I release this in hopes that in will spurn someone with a better source to share it.

Recording notes:
Shane Alexander opened, followed by Styx, then Yes. This seat location had a good mix of stage monitors and PA so the recording has more depth compared to the San Diego show. No nearby talkers in this show, just a few whoopers, but there is plenty of crowd noise audible in the quieter passages. Several times during the show Steve gave the evil eye to some talkers right in front of him, and at one point he mentions "so some of your *are* listening!"

Enjoy,

If burning to CD, a good place to split this show is after 08-And You And I. The end of that track is 63 minutes into the show.

Recording notes:

This was the end of the Progressive Tour (July - August) across the US. The previous night in Mountain View was the last shared bill with Styx; this night was Yes-only. The band filled out the setlist by adding Steve's acoustic solo, debuting Into The Storm, and adding Machine Messiah. Tempus Fugit began with Steve energetically jumping up and down to count out the start. The crowd was completely engaged throughout the show, which fed the band to give a great performance.

Humphreys is a high stage with the speaker cabinets placed under the front of the stage rather than stacked on the sides. Sound levels in the third row were pretty high so there is not much in way of dynamics or stereo separation in this recording. This was my first night using the Mikey/iPhone combination that I was able to capture a full concert. A little capsule handling noise is present here and there.

This is definitely an audience recording. The audience was really into this show, a few times to the point of distraction as your can hear. For some reason Californians seem to have an urge to blurt out their feelings to complete strangers. When Benoit is introducing AYAI and mentions it is from 1972, the woman in front shouts "Class of '72!". I was afraid that she was going to describe her whole high school career in finite detail to everyone within six rows. As the majesty of the song unfolds, however, she quietens. All in all, the crowd was either up on their feet clapping along and whooping, or sitting and listening intently. They responded with sustained cheers for the encore. As the band mentions, a nice way to wrap the tour.

Very happy with the quality on this one (samples attached) - all I've done is boost the volume a tad. Bloke with a bit of a cough behind and someone sneezed a bit in front, but nothing too fatal.

Benoit accurate throughout, but completely lost it at the end of Heart Of The Sunrise. Got the impression that Geoff had some minor technical problems (perhaps one of his keyboards set to the wrong level). Generally an excellent performance however, and the crowd were very appreciative.

Logical split to convert to CD is between Clap and Fly From Here.

CONTRAST CLAUSE:
A different recording of this show is already on DIME, available here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=383496
However, this recording is taken from my master wave file, recorded by myself (turniton) through my Zoom H2 wave recorder, and it is different as it sounds more brilliant.

Review:
Not a good performance for the first part of the show, the voice of the singer was often out of tune; well, it is not easy to sing like Jon Anderson !!! The performance was better for the second part of the show, and even the sound was enhanced but only after one hour !!!

Your feedback and comments will be my reward for all the work involved in this project.
Enjoy!

This gig was nothing short of a disaster. Please don´t get me wrong - I love Yes, I love the new album, I love Benoit David´s singing on that album, but this night in Copenhagen his singing was so incredibly awful that people in the venue started making fun of him, and some even left after a couple of songs.

I don´t know why they played. I thought more of Squire/Howe than to play a gig where the singer is obviously not well. Had it been another band like, say, Motorhead I wouldn´t have cared much. But with Yes the vocals are as important as all the other instruments.

They should have cancelled, as they have done now with the rest of the tour. To my dismay they didn´t, and I was left heartbroken after many of my favourite songs were shattered to pieces.

That being said, I actually did enjoy watching Geoff Downes (and, as a consequence, 4/5 of the Drama-lineup). That was nice. But this gig should never have happened.

The sample below is a film of Fly from here, the complete song. It was the only song during the entire show that came close to sounding ok. I shot it with my Xperia and replaced the sound with this recording. If nothing else, listen for the cool parts by Geoff.

A sad day. I hope the band returns with either a singer that can cut it or with Jon, farfetched as that may be. I have nothing against Benoit David at all, but he ruined this gig for me.

This is the first ever NZ show for Yes (We Finally Made It) and the first with Jon Davison on vocals - and it was very good.
I first started listening to Yes over 20 years ago when I got Close to The Edge. My 10 year old son (who went to the concert also, and who you may hear talking) first started listening to them 3 weeks ago, he enjoyed it but it was a long day so he had a "wee snooze" during Heart of The Sunrise - he woke for the last few songs.

Equipment:

Audacity Binaural Mikes / Battery Box > Sony PCM M10B (Mike sens low / Manual Level (4) / LCF off / Limiter off) > Flac (Audacity to split tracks / fade in and out , Traders little helper for torrent and FLAC files)

Recorded 15m from stage slightly right of centre as you look at stage - Row N Orchestra section.

Taper notes....

This one was a bit of a rush....

My mate was running late (actually ended up missing the whole show) and so I was stood outside with all my gear secreted at around 20:00 waiting for him. We'd reckoned on a 2100 start for Yes given doors were 1930 and the tickets said "Plus special guests" however - there weren't any special guests and everyone was told to get in and get your seats quicksticks as Yes were due on stage now for set 1...Panic !!!!!

I went straight in and took my seat - with the gear still stashed - no mikes set up or anything - let me tell you, getting mikes, battery boxes and PCM's out from where I'd stashed them and set up in the full glare of ushers taking people to their seats with the lights still up - not easy....

As a result I missed the first few seconds of the intro music - nothing major - I've faded in there about 3 seconds. Next problem was mike location - normally they are all set up and attached nicely but I didn't have that opportunity so I had to wing it and as a result the first 10 mins or so have a few little scuffles as I tried to set up my right mike - left one was fine from the off.

once I got this sorted though it is good.

I had to adjust the levels down at about 3 mins in as I was clipping out on the deep bass notes and the snare-but again nothing major.

Set 1 was quite short - and set 2 was longer than a 80min CD - so I've taken the liberty of putting Fly from here (I-V) on a separate disc - so you will hear a fade out after And You and I and a fade in as set 2 starts. I've then faded in for disc 2 using the clapping at the end of Fly from here as a start - so nothing is missed or cut - it was the only way to minimise cuts etc only thing missing is the 30 mins in the interval when I went and sorted my mikes !!!!

Nice balanced recording - the mikes and PCM working well.

Set one finished with "And you and I" and Set two opened with Fly from Here - see notes below regarding how to fit on CD's

Enjoy.

MD5 file will be in the torrent as well...but note !! - In the MD5 file it shows Fly from here as on disc 1 - this won't fit - needs to be on a separate disc then the rest is on disc 3.

Notes:
There aren't a lot of songs that I'm familiar with from Yes' catalogue and that's mainly because despite their progressive rock nature, they're still a very easy listening band who don't really provoke a lot of emotion within when I listen to them. No offence to their fans but that's just me.

Nevertheless, not being one to turn down a challenge, I was more than happy to volunteer for the recording of these guys at the request of several people. My only regret is taking this long to release it as I've been busy working overseas only days after this recording was made!

So, what to say about the show? They're consumate professionals. They know what they're doing and how to do it right. Though the volume was somewhat tame, the sound was clear as a bell, with only a slightly aggressive EQ curve being made necessary in the upper-midrange part of the spectrum to help tame some overemphasis from the sound guy. The crowd were reasonably well behaved and all in all, it was a fun night for everyone.

The recording was a bit too long for 2 CDs but not justifiably long for 3 CDs and that was mostly due to the long durations of applause between songs. To get that second disc under control, about 2.5 minutes worth of applause needed scrapping and so there was a fair amount of time spent picking the right points in the recording to cut and crossfade accordingly. I tried to keep it as inconspicuous as possible but I'm sure people will still pick that up. My apologies. More importantly though, the songs are all unhindered!

Enjoy the recording people and once again, my apologies for the late release of this piece. A few days more and it would have been released in a more timely manner!

...and please, don't sell this bootleg, otherwise you're just plain old scum. That and ... nah, Yes are too nice to inflict pain upon anyone so I'll have to volunteer for the task. Use your imagination as to what I can do to you.

Comments: This is the Yes performance "in the round" from Westbury, NY. I was surprised they played as long as they did, considering Procol Harum played for a whole hour. I was pleasantly surprised to see that most of the new material played last fall in Europe remained in the set. ("Life On A Film Set" was dropped, but I'm totally okay with that, as I feel it is the weakest track on "Fly From Here"). It was also nice to hear some other tunes that they haven't played since Jon left, such as "America" and "Awaken". I was wondering how they were going to do the harp, but Jon Davison played that part on a keyboard. Speaking of Mr. Davison, I thought he did well. This was my first time at this venue. I thought the acoustics were pretty good.

Recording wise, this came out very nice. The only issue is that the cymbals get louder. This seems to happen with the smaller "in the round" venues as the drums will rotate directly in front of me and I'll get extra drum sound from the stage when the drums pass by. Crowd noise is minimal because the rude people were sitting in other sections. All in all, this one is a nice capture.

Here is my offering from my master. Show was stopped early due to pending lightning storm. Sound needed to be dialed in by mixing guys. Seemed to swoop around bowl but not on purpose. Really like the new singer. As close to the real thing you can get. Way better than last years guy. There are other sources out there. Enjoy the show, theklopeks

Recorded by bcironmaiden - Sound is Great!!! There is an ASSHOLE next to me whistling in my ear, every now and then, and going Whoo Hoo, luckily it's not as loud on the recording as it was in my ear, and it's not very often. The recording is still amazing! The sound at this venue is just incredible!

3rd time that the recorder and I have tried to team up on a recording. It's always something.
This time I dropped my recorder during Yours is No Disgrace, popping the card out and causing other issues.
The gain setting was changed, which clipped the hell out of my stuff. So here is his recording.

We had 5th row tickets, but got caught outside when the lights dropped and decided not to try and get to our seats.
The venue wasn't even close to being sold out, so we took some seats near the board instead.

Even though I didn't record this, it is dedicated to the folks that (hopefully) wound up in our seats, and to Andy the Tech Support guy who made it possible for us to make it in the first place.

The guy that recorded it faded it in and out at the beginning and end respectively.

Procol Harum was not recorded.

Here is my capture of Yes Thursday night at the Paramount Theatre in Denver. I have always loathed this venue for taping because its nearly impossible to come away with an excellent capture unless your sitting about 10th row dead center. I was sitting about 12th row and just a little to the left of Steve. Sample included.

Also, a few comments about the performance. Jon, the new vocalist, is dynomite. He can truley hit the high notes with no problem. Steve was on fire and is always a treat to watch. Alan always seems tired - never plays a solo, but solid. My real complaint is with Chris and his lack of spotlighting. I would easily put Chris in the top 5 rock bass players of all time. So, other than Tempus Fugit and the opening bit in HOTS, why was there no spotlight on Chris all evening? He did pull out his triple-necked bass for Awaken which was pretty cool. My buddy who is not a huge Yes fan, but certainly has enjoyed seeing them over the years and had not seen Yes since the 1997 tour, had very positive comments about the show, saying the highlight of the show was the new FFH Suite.

And a few comments about the recording: Again, the recording is a little boomy due to the 3 mile high ceilings at the Paramount. Also, I had some very noisy neighbors at the beginning of the show. They are rather loud through YIND, then when Tempus Fugit started, Mr. Loudmouth went to get another cocktail, and much to my delight, never returned. So, crowd noise is minimal after the first song - yay!
Procol Harum opening the show will go up soon.

Notes:

This was my 36th Yes show and my first time seeing Jon Davison as their vocalist. This show was a vast improvement over the band's 2011 Los Angeles gig thanks to a better performance and my being seated around a more respectful group of people. Granted, there were some idiots at this show, but fortunately they weren't near me. For example, one rude screamer during Howe's acoustic solo bit seemed to put Howe in a sour mood, which was then aggravated by a technical problem on stage (I think there was an issue with Squire's cab). Otherwise, this was a really good show and everyone seemed to play exceptionally well--especially Howe (his playing during "YIND" is just phenomenal). And I really loved hearing the Fly From Here suite in its entirety and witnessing Downes play a stellar "Awaken."

I was located on an aisle and was also right behind the venue's horizontal aisle that separates the Orchestra from the Loge, so there is some phasing caused by people walking in front of me. It's not as bad as it was during the opening set by Procol Harum, but it is very noticeable in "YIND" and the Fly From Here suite. And sometimes those people going by would be talking or they would loudly walk on the steps to my right. As for other noises, the loudest applause came from the man to my left, but he barely clapped (after the show, I overheard him and his friend talking about only recognizing four
songs). This same man's habitual cough was actually more intrusive but that can only be heard in the quieter parts of the show. And there was someone with restless leg syndrome in the section to my right whose sneaker kept rubbing on the ground and making a squeak noise. It was really annoying at the show, but I only heard it in the recording during Howe's solo songs. And there's some singular clapping by a person way behind my right that can be heard in "ISAGP," "America," "Leaves Of Green," "Bumpy Ride" and "Awaken." There's also the sound of a plastic cup being kicked during Howe's solo songs and in "Roundabout." And that water-like sound at the end of "Awaken" is from a rather large amount of confetti being blown into the crowd. And lastly, someone had a fixation on Howe's guitar tech and kept shouting his name everytime he came out on stage to help Howe switch guitars.

I amplified this, but did nothing else to the recording. And if burning to cd, the suggested split is between the Fly From Here suite and "WS."

Please support the band by buying their official releases and merch and seeing them live. And be sure to pick up their most recent studio album, Fly From Here.
